Why Barcelona will keep paying Messi until 2025 even though he wants to leave
According to Marca, the Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi, would earn a massive cash windfall in bonuses from the club, even though he quits this summer.
The future of Messi is still up in the air, and it looks as if he’s finally leaving the Nou Camp.
The 32-year-old admitted in December that the club was in a “awful situation” with “no money” to reinvest in the squad.
Messi’s current salary was also stated to be “unsustainable” by a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, Emi Rousaud, and Barcelona could not afford to pay him the same amount going forward.
But it is known that whether the Argentine stays at the club or not, they are still set to be struck in the pocket.
Why Barcelona will keep paying Messi …
Messi is said to be in line at the end of the current season to earn another EUR 39million (£ 34.8m).
The fee is one-half of a €78m bonus negotiated in 2017 when Messi signed his last deal, which came with a salary increase of €100m.
He had already cashed in the other instalment of EUR 39m.
But instead of the money arriving in one lump sum, the deal would see Messi collect it over four years in eight different instalments.
That’s why Barcelona will keep paying Messi still 2025.
