Soldiers kill kidnapper, rescue abducted woman in Edo

On Wednesday, soldiers on escort duty shot and killed a yet-to-be-identified kidnapping suspect in Benin, Edo state.

A woman captured by the gunmen was rescued by military officers as well.

The incident took place in the Benin metropolis of Aduwawa, located along the Benin/Auchi route.

It was confirmed that the deceased suspect and his associates were now on the run, trailing and assaulting the woman who was driving her car near the NTA premises.

After putting the woman’s car to a halt, the armed kidnappers pushed her out of her car and pulled her into the car they had stolen earlier.

Unknown to the hoodlums, during the attack, armed soldiers travelling on that route spotted them and stopped to rescue the woman.

But the hoodlums opened gunfire as a decoy to flee upon sighting the soldiers.

However, one of the kidnappers dropped to the soldiers’ higher firepower and died on the spot, while others fled.

They saved the woman unhurt.

The spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, adding that the investigation into the abduction had begun.
