Nigeria lost to Ivory Coast in WAFU U-17 Cup final
After losing 3-2 to Ivory Coast, Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have lost the West African Football Union, WAFU U-17 Cup final to Ivory Coast.
After strikes by Sindou Kone, Abdrumane Konate and Seydou Traore condemned Nigeria to their second loss against Ivory Coast in the tournament, Nigeria, the defending champion, lost out despite two late goals from Ahmed Abdulahi.
In the semi-final, the Golden Eaglets won a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso to progress to the final and consequently qualified for the 2021 U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco.
It is anticipated that the Golden Eaglets will return to Nigeria to prepare for the 2021 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
At the 2019 edition in Tanzania, they finished fourth to qualify for the Brazil World Cup, where they entered the round of 16 of the tournament.
Nigeria has won the U17 World Cup five times and is the tournament’s most prolific team.
