"APC victory in bye-elections shows sign of Buhari’s triumph in 2019"

The victory of the All Progressives Congress in last weekend’s bye-elections signal victory for President Muhammdu Buhari come 2019, according to a House of Representatives aspirant, Abu Najakku.

Najakku, who is an aspirant for Birnin Kebbi/Bunza/Kalgo Federal Constituency, Kebbi, on the platform of APC, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

The aspirant also said that the victory was for all progressive Nigerians.

NAN reports that APC emerged victorious in all the two senatorial seats of Katsina and Bauchi states, as well as the House of Representatives’ seat in Kogi on August 11.

“This is a clear indication that President Muhammadu Buhari will, ‘insha-Allah,’ win the 2019 presidential election.

“The victory shows that the masses are behind our president because of his good plans for Nigeria as well as what he has done for the entire country.

“I have no doubt in my mind that APC will do it again by recording a landslide victory over other political parties and all these will be possible by the grace of God Almighty.

“Buhari is a gift from Almighty Allah and our prayers for him are that Allah will increase him in health and wisdom to lead this country to Promised Land,” he said.

While urging Nigerians to support the policies and programmes of the present administration in the country, Najakku assured that the president would not disappoint them.

The aspirant advised the people to always ensure that they elect people with proven integrity that would not only deliver the goods but deliver them “effectively, successfully and excellently.”

I must tell the whole Nigerians that Dino Melaye is a liar – Daddy Showkey

Daddy Showkey, a veteran musician, has described Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye as a liar.

naijabulletin news blog

The musician said this while reacting to Melaye’s revelation on how he escaped from gunmen who allegedly tried to kidnap and assassinate him, last week.

Gunmen had allegedly attempted to abduct the lawmaker in Gwagwalada area of Abuja, last week.

Shortly after the incident, Bayelsa Senator, Ben Bruce confirmed the incident, saying Melaye was kidnapped by gunmen.

While Nigerians were still in the euphoria of the news of Melaye’s abduction, the lawmaker surfaced with a narrative on how he managed to escaped.

Melaye said he hid in a tree after he was attacked by the gunmen for 11 hours.

He said, “I jumped into the bush, and I started running. They pursued me and I was able to outmanoeuvre them and climbed a tree.

“I was on top of the three when I saw them run past looking frantically for me. When they didn’t find me, they also ran back.”

Rubbishing Melaye’s claim, the veteran singer, who shared a video of the Senator narrating how he escaped on his Instagram page wrote: “ Compo 1, Oba Liar 1, Lie lie Master, Our Oga. Lie lieoooo. You too much.

“The boy is good, omo yen da gan lo je be, Dino me liar.”

Gobe as NBC under fire for banning Falz’s ‘This is Nigeria’, Olamide’s ‘See Mary, See Jesus’, others, more here

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately lift the recent ban on Jay FM 101.9 Jos and songs such as Falz’s ‘This is Nigeria’, Wande Coal’s ‘Iskaba’ and Olamide’s ‘See Mary, See Jesus’.

The organization said the action by the NBC “amounts to illegal restrictions on media freedom, the right to freedom of opinion and expression and free information and ideas.”

SERAP in a statement signed by its Deputy Director, Timothy Adewale, on Sunday, expressed “Concern about the censorship of the media and songs deemed ‘vulgar and indecent’ by the NBC, as such action risks undermining legitimate expression and independent voices. The NBC must immediately lift the ban on the radio station and rescind the arbitrary fine.”

The organization said, “The right to freedom of expression, information and ideas is applicable not only to comfortable, inoffensive or politically correct opinions, but also to ideas that offend, shock and disturb. The constant confrontation of ideas, even controversial ones, is a stepping stone to achieving a vibrant democratic society, transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law.

“Vague rules on vulgarity and indecency should not be used subjectively to ban or fine independent media outlets, particularly radio and television channels. The action by the NBC can create an uncertain environment for radio and television stations and media professionals in general and lead to fostering self-censorship and shunning any meaningful criticism of public policies and authorities.

“The NBC is adopting vague rules vulgarity and indecency to undermine freedom of expression, right to information and opinion. By banning the radio station from playing the songs, the NBC is not only undermining and harming the station, but also undermining everyone’s right to information, public participation and open and democratic governance

“Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to which Nigeria is a state party includes the right of individuals to criticize or openly and publicly evaluate their Governments without fear of interference or punishment.

“It is important for the NBC to strive to promote diversity of views, and the media’s importance as a platform for public debate about important matters of public interest and ideas. Censorship or impermissible restrictions in the exercise of media freedom and freedom of expression can restrict free circulation of ideas and opinions and impose obstacles to the free flow of information.

“Freedom of the press and other news media afford the public one of the best means of discovering and forming an opinion of the ideas on political and social issues and other issues of public interest. Not only does the NBC have the task of ensuring that radio stations and other media organizations can function effectively to impart such information and ideas: the public also has a right to receive them.”

For Buhari to tells Nigerians to pray after killings, he should be a cleric -Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for telling Nigerians to pray over the incessant killings in the country.

Atiku expressed sadness that after innocent people were murdered in places across the nation, Buhari was in the habit of asking Nigerians to pray.

According to him, the president should have been a cleric, noting that insecurity cannot be tackled only by prayers.

He told Thisday, “The other day, there were killings in Plateau State and the President said the situation had got so bad there was nothing more he could do than pray.

“Even that statement itself is a cry for restructuring. The man is admitting that there is nothing he can do, within the current structure, other than to pray. That means the current structure, by his admission, is not working.

“How can I be president and criminals will attack my people and I will tell them that the only thing I can do is pray? Then, in that case, I should be a clergyman, not a president!

“How can a leader open his mouth and tell his citizens that it is better to give land than to die? That is as good as telling the people that they have been conquered.”

Recall that Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, had in June told President Buhari that Nigerians have prayed enough over the incessant killings across the country.
